Everyone's Comic Book

So recently I've been getting a lot of questions that sound a little bit like this "Hey Jacks I don't really know much about comic books but I really want to get into them do you have any recommendations?"

For those of you who have seen the recent trend of superhero big budget movies and were thinking your taste would fall in line with those comic books I suggest these books, because you don't really have to know the back story AND they are popular characters whose back stories you are at least slightly familiar with.

Superman: Red Son
It is set in an alternate universe where instead of Superman being raised in the States he is actually raised in Russia. It is pretty trippy and shows how different our hero would be if he were born in a different environment. Therefore, it is somewhat of a Nature versus Nurture Comic. You'll love it!

Kingdom Come is pretty cool too. It's basically a Superman returns kind of story. You'll like it!

If you're like dude Superman is totally lame. WHICH HE IS NOT. Lol. And were thinking more of a Batman comic book I suggest these comics:

Batman- Lovers and Madmen is one of Joker's origin stories. I guarantee you will love it. It has all you love about Batman such as angst, crazy madmen running around, and Batman saving the day.

There is also  Batman: The Dark Knight Returns which 'the' Frank Miller wrote it so I think you'll like.

Now I loved Kick Ass. This is a story still in the superhero realm but not really about a Superhero. Many of you have seen the movie and I was surprised some of my friends did not know it was based on the comic. If you liked the movie you will like the comic. The comic is bit more real though.

Lastly, if you're not really into the whole superhero scene but still want to check out a good comic you should take a look at Day Tripper. Really good art and a tear jerker.

However, if you want an adventure story that does not have to do with superheroes you should check out SuperMarket. It has a lot of action and you will definitely have a laugh or two.

If you guys have any suggestions please comment.

  1. Totally love Batman lovers and madmen! Kickass was pretty cool, and so was the movie. They modified some scenes that significantly changed the concept but Hitgirl was still badass.
    Need to read Red Son!!!!!
